Moving to America?

So, I’m writing this feeling a little…blah. I spend many nights logging onto facebook to chat and catch up on the lives of all those back at home. Recently, it seems that every other status update includes “Athens” “homecoming” “OU” or a certain bar or beverage. I guess it is such a big deal for my friends, and my class in general, because it is our first time back for homecoming as Alum. Maybe to see that OU is still the place we love and that life does go on here whether we’re living and breathing Athens or not. Maybe it is just an excuse to be irresponsible and “college” for a short time before returning to “the real world” bum, bum, bum. But whatever it is, I’m pissed I’m missing it! Pictures will be posted, stories will be told, “I wish you were there” will be said. All this talk is making me want to say hey, you only live once and book a flight tonight! And honestly, it crossed my mind (along with my parents killing me, my host family killing me, and my bank account killing me). So, if you’re reading this you already know… I did not make it to Athens L

Instead, I started off the week by heading up to the country club and instead of working out sat in the steam room, hot tub and sauna for a while.  I feel like my body is slowly shutting down and I need a solid 2 days of sleep, which isn’t going to happen so I’ll take a day of relaxation as an alternative.

I took Kate swimming on Tuesday, I feel like I live at that place but she loves it.  And really, who can say no when a cute little three year old with a British accent is saying, “I love you Lindsay, you’re my best friend.” I’m still not sure if she is truly that cute or she just really knows how to work the au pairs.

The following day I dropped Beth off at school and saw (I can’t remember his name) pulling out of his driveway as he smiled and waved. I’m not sure if I mentioned this in a previous post but he is Prince William’s body guard and lives next to Abbie and Beth’s school and also friends with Gordon and Lisa (the guys play cricket together). Now, I know you might be thinking Will isn’t as cute these days and Harry is more of a catch but hey, we’ve got a connection with the royal family so let’s take whatever “in” we can get. I’ve tried to locate a picture of him but haven’t been able to find one in my google searches. Any ideas for what I would search?

After all that excitement, Thursday was pretty normal. Kate somehow ended up with Wheatabix(nasty, flavorless cereal that looks like mush) all over her hair ending in a quick bath and lots of tears, it’s rough being three. She had ballet and Petrea came with us. She is the one from Denmark and has only been here a couple weeks and is meeting with 2 families in London this weekend to be relocated out of her current house. She’ll be right in the city, which will be good for going out and visiting so I’m all for it!

Friday was a pretty lazy day followed by babysitting the girls at night. I ended the night skyping with my parents about what I do if/when my host family moves to AMERICA. Yes, Gordon is getting moved to California for his job it’s just a matter of when. They will find out this week when to expect the move so I’m just waiting to find out. Lisa made it clear she wants me to join them, but that idea doesn’t really fit into my whole “travel Europe” plan. I’m stuck in limbo here for now and hopefully will have a better idea this coming week or so. I would hate to find a new family but that idea is looking more and more real. I’ll keep everyone posted as soon as I hear anything but the plan is to still be here(somewhere in the UK) until summer.

Saturday morning I went with the girls to the school fair. They had a few little games and a raffle of really odd things, but the girls had a good time because they had a face painting lady there. We didn’t stay long, headed home and Lisa ran some errands with the girls while I got ready for the night.

I finally got what I've wanted forever... to know what its like to have little sisters! Kate wanted to pick out my outfit for the night, while Abbie tried on all of my jewelry. Beth had the music blasting and I felt like I was back in the sorority house. They all watched me put on my makeup and of course Kate had me put on hers too. Abbie tried to talk me out of it because "I miss you when you go out with your friends."

It was Petrea’s 20th birthday at midnight so I went out with her to dinner at Brasserie Gerard in Berkhamsted. It was a cute little French place with horrible service, but I guess you get use to that here. I had scallops, a vegetable & goat cheese tart, and cheesecake with berries for dessert. It was good but I’m not sure I’d go back.

Later we went to The George just down the street because Gordon suggested we go there for a younger crowd. When we first walked in there was a huge group of guys standing by the door looking at us like we had 3 heads. My first reaction was, oh my god, this is a gay bar. Not so much. We took a seat at the bar and started talking with the 2 Australian bartenders after they excitedly found out I was American. They poured us a “welcome shot” and followed it up with a Strongbow, my favorite. It was a strange pub with a DJ, disco lights and a fog machine. We met lots of people (its amazing how popular you become when people realize your from the states!).

We were also celebrating Petrea finding a new family. She went and met them on Saturday and will be moving there probably this week L. They live right in London in a huge house so I’m a little jealous. The family told her there are other families in the neighborhood looking for au pairs if she knew anyone…hmmm.

Sunday I slept till about 11am cause we got back pretty late. I heard the girls whispering outside my door and seconds later they started knocking so I had to let them in. We watched Super Nanny, the new obsession now and then they went out for lunch while I hung out here to finish up this post.

Another successful week here, hope all is week back home :)

Until next week,
Cheers!
